Description

An SMT engineer is a professional works with surface mount technology (SMT), which is a method of attaching electronic components to printed circuit boards (PCBs). SMT engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and improving the SMT processes and equipment that are used to produce high-quality PCBs. Some of the tasks that an SMT engineer may perform are:

  • Defining and upgrading the SMT assembly processes according to the specifications of the PCBs and the components.
  • Implementing and verifying special manufacturing procedures for complex or new products.
  • Setting and adjusting the parameters of the SMT machines, such as temperature, speed, flux, and wave height.
  • Inspecting and evaluating the quality of the solder joints and identifying any defects or errors.
  • Maintaining and cleaning the SMT machines and their components, such as the solder pot, the pump, the nozzles, and the filters.
