Description

1. Reading and Interpreting Blueprints and Specifications:

  • They must be able to interpret specifications, tolerances, and other requirements to ensure accuracy and quality. 
  • Fabricators need to understand technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine the required shapes, dimensions, and assembly instructions for their work. 

2. Shaping and Forming Materials:

  • Fabricators utilize a variety of tools and equipment to shape and form raw materials into desired components. 
  • These tools can include shears, lathes, presses, rollers, and other specialized machines. 
  • They may also employ techniques like bending, drilling, or punching to achieve specific shapes and forms. 

3. Cutting and Joining Materials:

  • Fabricators cut raw materials to size using various cutting tools, including saws, grinders, and flame cutters. 
  • They then join these cut pieces together, often through welding, but also using other methods like riveting, bolting, or fastening. 

4. Welding and Assembly: 

  • Welding is a common aspect of fabrication, requiring the ability to use different welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, ARC) to join metal parts. 
  • Fabricators are responsible for assembling components according to plans, ensuring accurate positioning and secure connections. 

5. Quality Control and Inspection: 

  • Fabricators perform quality checks on their work throughout the fabrication process, ensuring components meet specifications and tolerances.
  • They may also inspect finished products for defects, ensuring they meet quality standards before being released for further use. 

6. Operating Machinery and Equipment:

  • Fabricators operate various machines and equipment, including grinders, saws, drill presses, and other tools used in the fabrication process.
  • They may also be responsible for maintaining these machines and ensuring they are in proper working order. 

7. Safety and Compliance:

  • Fabricators must adhere to safety regulations and procedures, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • They must also be aware of potential hazards and take steps to prevent accidents.
