
Job Summary:
The Tool Room Operator is responsible for the maintenance, preparation, and handling of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This role ensures that all tools and equipment are available, calibrated, and in good working condition to support production efficiency and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain conventional and CNC tool room machines (e.g., lathe, milling, grinding, EDM, etc.).
Manufacture and refurbish tools, dies, moulds, and fixtures as per drawings and specifications.
Perform tool assembly, fitting, and precision adjustments.
Ensure proper storage and inventory control of tools and equipment.
Inspect tools for wear and defects; repair or suggest replacements as needed.
Maintain tool usage records and update the tool history log.
Follow preventive maintenance schedules for all tool room equipment.
Collaborate with the production team to meet tooling requirements and deadlines.
Ensure tools meet quality and dimensional standards through measurement and inspection.
Comply with all safety and housekeeping practices in the tool room area.
Qualifications and Skills:
ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die Making / Machinist / Fitter or equivalent.
1–5 years of hands-on experience in tool room operations (freshers may be considered).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering blueprints.
Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (Vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, etc.).
Skilled in manual and semi-automatic machining processes.
Good understanding of manufacturing tolerances and finishes.
Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with CAD/CAM software or CNC programming.
Knowledge of press tool, injection moulds, or die casting tools.
Understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
Work Environment:
Tool Room / Machine Shop within a manufacturing setup.
May involve shift work and close coordination with production teams.
