Description

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides immediate on-site medical care and transportation for critically ill or injured individuals, often in an ambulance setting. They assess a patient's condition, provide basic first aid and life-saving interventions like CPR, and ensure the patient is safely transported to a medical facility for further care. EMTs also maintain patient records, equipment, and communicate effectively with other first responders and medical staff. Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-hospital care: Providing prompt and appropriate medical care to patients in emergency situations, including assessing the situation, administering first aid, and stabilizing the patient.
  • Transportation: Safely transporting patients to medical facilities using emergency vehicles.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate patient records and checklists.
  • Equipment maintenance: Ensuring medical equipment is in good working order and inventory is maintained.
  • Communication: Clearly communicating with other first responders, emergency medical staff, and the patient's family.
  • Patient handover: Ensuring a smooth and effective handover of the patient to the receiving medical team at the hospital.
  • Following protocols: Adhering to established protocols and procedures for emergency medical care.
  • Maintaining a safe environment: Ensuring the safety of the patient, themselves, and others at the scene.
  • Operating emergency vehicles: Proficiently and safely operating emergency vehicles.
