Machine Setup and Operation: Preparing CNC machines (such as lathes, mills, or grinders) for production. This involves loading the correct program into the Machine Control Unit (MCU), selecting and installing the proper cutting tools, and securing raw materials.
Technical Interpretation: Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs. Operators must translate these specifications into precise machine settings, including tool speed, cutting depth, and feed rates.
Monitoring and Adjustment: Overseeing the machine during its cycle to detect issues such as tool wear, misalignment, or unusual noises. They make necessary adjustments or "offsets" to the program to maintain accuracy and quality throughout a production run.
Quality Control: Conducting regular inspections of finished parts using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges. They verify that the final product adheres to the tight tolerances defined in the design.
Maintenance and Cleaning: Performing routine daily maintenance, such as cleaning the machine, lubricating moving parts, and managing coolant levels. They are also responsible for clearing "swarf" (metal shavings) to ensure a safe and efficient work area.
Safety Compliance: Adhering to all company safety protocols and government regulations. This includes wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like safety glasses and earplugs in typically noisy and hazardous factory environment
