About Defy Technologies
Defy Technologies is a Madurai-based drone startup building indigenous UAVs and flight control systems for the construction industry — reducing India's dependence on imported drone technology.
This is an early-stage role. You will be the first engineer on the team, working directly with the founder to design, build, and fly real products.
What you will do
Design and iterate UAV airframes for construction surveying, progress monitoring, and payload-carrying applications — across multirotor and fixed-wing configurations
Build and assemble prototypes end-to-end: frame fabrication, motor mounting, ESC wiring, flight controller integration, and payload integration
Configure and tune PX4 or ArduPilot flight stacks for stable, mission-ready flight performance
Conduct ground tests and field flight tests; log data, identify failure modes, and drive design improvements
Integrate sensors and payloads — cameras, LiDAR, GPS/RTK modules — relevant to construction site surveying and photogrammetry workflows
Contribute to future platform expansions — agricultural spray drones, surveillance UAVs, and VTOL systems — as the product line grows
Who we are looking for
You have built things with your hands — a drone, a robot, an RC aircraft, or a project from an engineering competition. You are comfortable picking up a soldering iron and a caliper in the same afternoon. You do not need a perfect brief to start; you can work from a rough idea, build something, fly it, and tell us what broke and why.
A degree in Mechatronics, Aeronautical, Mechanical, or Electronics Engineering is preferred — but a strong project portfolio or competition track record (SAE Aero Design, DRDO competitions, national robotics events) will carry more weight than your college name.
