Position Overview
The CNC / VMC / VTL Operator is responsible for setup, operation, and daily monitoring of CNC (Computer Numerical Control), VMC (Vertical Machining Center), and VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe) machines to manufacture high-precision components according to engineering drawings and production schedules.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Machine Operation & Setup
Set up and operate CNC Turning, VMC (Vertical Machining Center), and VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe) machines.
Load raw materials, castings, or workpieces using appropriate fixtures, vices, or overhead hoists for heavy VTL jobs.
Load, align, and index required cutting tools, inserts, holders, and boring bars.
Perform basic zero setting, tool offset adjustments, and machine coordinate calibration.
2. Production & Quality Control
Read and interpret technical engineering drawings, blueprints, and Process Planning Sheets (GD&T).
Conduct first-piece and in-process quality inspections using precision measuring instruments (Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Bore Gauges, Height Gauges, Plug Gauges).
Make minor tool offset adjustments during production runs to maintain tight dimensional tolerances.
Monitor chip formation, coolant concentration, and cutting conditions to prevent tool wear or machine downtime.
3. Maintenance & Safety
Perform daily TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) checks: coolant levels, lubrication, air pressure, and chip tray cleaning.
Strictly follow workshop safety protocols, including wearing required PPE (safety shoes, glasses, hairnets/caps).
Keep the workstation, fixtures, and surrounding machine area clean and organized (5S practice).
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Education: 10th / 12th / ITI (Machinist/Turner/Fitter) or Diploma in Mechanical / Production Engineering.
Experience: 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience in operating CNC, VMC, or VTL machines. (Freshers with relevant ITI/Diploma training may also be considered).
Control Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.
Programming Skills: Knowledge of G-code & M-code basics for offset corrections and minor program edits.
Instruments Handling: Expertise in using Vernier Calipers, Outside/Inside Micrometers, Dial Indicators, and Height Gauges.
Work Shift: Willingness to work in rotational shifts.
Salary & Job Benefits
Salary Range: ₹18,000 to ₹35,000 per month (based on skill level, experience, and shift roles).
