Description

Job Summary

The Electrician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout the hospital. The role ensures uninterrupted power supply, electrical safety, preventive maintenance, and compliance with hospital policies, statutory regulations, and NABH standards to support patient care and hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, panels, switches, sockets, and lighting systems.
  • Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of electrical systems as per the maintenance schedule.
  • Monitor and maintain LT panels, distribution boards (DBs), UPS systems, generators, transformers, and electrical control panels.
  • Ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical areas such as ICU, Operation Theatre (OT), Emergency, NICU, Laboratory, and Radiology.
  • Respond promptly to electrical complaints and emergency breakdowns.
  • Inspect electrical equipment regularly and identify potential hazards or faults.
  • Carry out electrical testing, fault diagnosis, and repairs using appropriate tools and instruments.
  • Maintain emergency lighting systems and ensure proper functioning during power failures.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of DG sets, UPS systems, and battery banks.
  • Ensure proper earthing and electrical safety measures throughout the hospital.
  • Maintain records of preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment downtime.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for major repairs and annual maintenance contracts (AMC).
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety practices during maintenance work.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital safety policies, fire safety regulations, infection control practices, and NABH requirements.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment and hospital infrastructure projects.
  • Maintain housekeeping of electrical rooms, panels, and maintenance work areas.
  • Attend emergency calls and perform duties during power failures or disasters.

Qualifications

  • ITI Electrician / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Valid Electrician License (where applicable).
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in hospital, healthcare, commercial, or industrial electrical maintenance is preferred.
