Description

Commercial Vehicle Trainee Technician – Roles & Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Inspection & Diagnosis

  • Assist senior technicians in inspecting commercial vehicles.
  • Identify basic mechanical, electrical, and technical issues.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as per company/OEM checklists.
  • Support troubleshooting of engine, transmission, braking, steering, suspension, and electrical systems.

2. Service & Repair

  • Assist in scheduled preventive maintenance and general servicing.
  • Perform oil, filter, coolant, and other routine replacements under supervision.
  • Assist with brake, clutch, suspension, wheel, and tyre-related work.
  • Support dismantling, repair, and reassembly of vehicle components.

3. Diagnostic Equipment

  • Learn and use OEM diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Assist in identifying fault codes and technical problems.
  • Follow senior technician instructions while carrying out diagnostic procedures.

4. Workshop Safety

  • Follow all workshop safety procedures and instructions.
  • Wear required PPE, including safety shoes and other protective equipment.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and a clean working area.
  • Follow safe procedures while handling heavy vehicle components, tyres, tools, and equipment.

5. Tools & Equipment

  • Properly use and maintain workshop tools and equipment.
  • Keep tools clean and return them to the designated location after use.
  • Report damaged or unsafe tools/equipment to the supervisor.

6. Learning & Training

  • Participate actively in the Trainee Technician Training Program.
  • Learn commercial vehicle systems, repair procedures, and OEM standards.
  • Attend technical training sessions and practical demonstrations.
  • Improve technical knowledge through hands-on experience.

7. Job Card & Documentation

  • Assist in completing job cards and service-related documentation.
  • Record the work carried out and parts used accurately.
  • Follow workshop processes for vehicle inspection, repair, and delivery.

8. Teamwork & Customer Support

  • Work effectively with senior technicians, service advisors, and workshop supervisors.
  • Support timely completion of assigned jobs.
  • Maintain professional behaviour and discipline within the workshop.
  • Assist in ensuring vehicles are repaired and delivered according to quality standards.

Key Objective

To develop the trainee into a skilled Commercial Vehicle Technician by providing hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance, diagnosis, repair, safety practices, and OEM-standard workshop procedures.
